Description: Removal of existing slate roof and replacement
Value: £88,000
Date: Completed June 2007
SG Molloy were appointed as Principal Contractor in June 2007 to remove and replace the existing roof and chimneys at 360 – 378 Lisburn Road, Belfast.
The existing buildings comprised commercial premises, offices and residential accommodation in an extremely active area on the Lisburn Road. Scaffolding was erected giving due regard for access, and pedestrian activity in the area. The work was programmed to minimise noisy activity during busy periods and liaison was undertaken with commercial premises in the area to appraise them of the programme of activities and ensure that requirements that they had in terms of deliveries were not impacted at all by the works.
The work involved replacement of lead detailing which was undertaken in accordance with the Lead Association requirements and the Architects specification. Ongoing liaison with the Architect was an essential feature of the project and the work was carefully programmed to mitigate against the weather conditions at all times.
Safety issues were a paramount consideration given the nature of the work and pedestrian activity below. In addition SG Molloy ensured that the access remained safe at all times as this area was also largely residential and there were children living in close proximity. The work was completed in accordance with the specification on time and within the budget allocated.
